After besting 88 beauties from all over the globe, Miss Paulina Vega of Colombia took home the crown as 63rd Miss Universe at the coronation night held in Miami, Florida on Sunday (Monday in Manila).
The 22-year-old stunner from Barranquilla, Colombia bested out her fellow finalist: Miss USA Nia Sanchez who was crowned as 1st Runner-up, Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha as 2nd, Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen who was crowned as 3rd and 4th Runner-up Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennel, respectively.
Miss Indonesia won the National Costume award, along with Miss Nigeria that was awarded Miss Congeniality and Miss Photogenic goes to Miss Puerto Rico.
Rob Dyrdek, MTV star asked Miss Colombia, “What could women learn from men?”
“A lot of men still believe in equality. I think that’s the thing that women we should learn from men,” came her reply.
Vega became the first Miss Universe out of Colombia since 1958 after Luz Marina Zuluaga. She is the grandaughter of Elvira Castillo, Miss Atlántico 1953 (Colombia). She also earned the highest possible score in every presentation in the Miss Universe pageant with the score of 9.9.
Meanwhile, Miss Philippines Mary Jean Lastimosa, 27-year-old native of North Cotabato somehow made it up to top 10 but her journey to the crown ends and never makes it to the top 5.
